GP #LifeHacks 147: Show Unused Codes On Paystub With YTD Information!

Payroll for Microsoft Dynamics GP is packed with tons of cool functionality… most importantly.. making sure everyone gets paid! 🙂

How about those deductions and benefits… yup, it handles those too, all represented on the employee pay stub… SWEET!

But what happens when a code is inactivated part way through the year… the code no longer shows up on the statement!?!?!?! YIKES!

That’s OK, you can change a simple setting to get them to show up, automatically… keeping your employee’s happy and showing that very valuable YTD amount… especially come close to the end of the year, right?

Here’s how:

Custom Links – Adding Custom Links for Employees

As part of a Custom Link blog series (which can be found here), we will discuss adding custom links to specific areas in Dynamics GP.

Creating Custom Links for Employees

Custom Links for Employees can be pretty helpful, indeed!  We can link directly to folders holding employee documents or even open an employee photo!

Let’s take a look at this together!

GP #LifeHacks 128: How to apply the payroll tax updates – Dynamics GP

Microsoft has released the most recent tax rate changes for GP Payroll, and you want to get them in your system.  No problem!

It’s not as hard as you think but it does have some requirements and precautions that come along with the process.

Below is a quick step by step guide on how to get this task accomplished, along with some words of ‘wisdom’ (ok, I know, humor me!)

GP #LifeHacks 141: Hide/Mask Social Security Numbers

Are you using the robust HR and Payroll module for Dynamics GP?  If so, I hope you are masking social security numbers on your reports!

A relatively new feature (GP 2015 R2) in the HR/Payroll module allows for automatically masking of SSN’s on certain reports.  It’s actually quite simple.

Here is a step by step on how to implement this feature on some key reports in your system.  It’s a piece of cake!! Continue reading “GP #LifeHacks 141: Hide/Mask Social Security Numbers”

GP #LifeHacks 119: Year End Wage Data in a Smartlist using a SQL View

As year end quickly approaches, I wanted to share with my followers a very helpful #GPLifeHack that turns your year end wage file data into a Smartlist for easy auditing and review!

There is an ‘edit’ report for W2’s but it’s in long form and difficult to review – plus it is not easily exported to Excel.  What exports easily to Excel?  SMARTLISTS!!! YEAH THEY DO!

Let’s make this year-end process easier by creating a Smartlist for year end W2 data!

Year End Payroll Data – SQL View for Dynamics GP

Year End is a busy time, especially for those using Dynamics GP Payroll!  Below is a SQL Script that can pull the year end wage file data into a smartlist!  COOL!!

It is built to pull in records for federal, state, local, special box and the other box.  Because of this, employees may have multiple rows if the employee has multiple states, special boxes, or other box data.  Using a pivot table cleans this right up!  Check it out!
